Getting Fired Up

What I Learned In School Today: It’s exciting to see others get fired up about what you are passionate about.

Yesterday several administrators from my district took advantage of a professional learning experience at the local IU with George Couros (georgecouros.ca), an educator and author of “The Innovator’s Mindset”. I am a big fan of his work, thoroughly enjoyed his book, and learned a ton from his current online course (#IMMOOC). Unfortunately, due to previous commitments, I could not attend the session myself, but I was eager and excited to hear what my colleagues thought and brought back with them. Fortunately, I was not disappointed.

I spoke to several other principals who attended the professional learning session, all of whom are at different comfort levels in terms of blogging, Twitter, and innovation in schools, all of which are ideas I find quite exciting. Despite the varying comfort levels, everyone raved about the experience and brought back something valuable.

It’s really exciting when others become excited about the trends in education that connect with your passions. I believe every educator should have a professional Twitter account so we can learn from one another. I am new to blogging, but I’m working at it and value the built in reflective time and opportunity to connect. Most importantly, I believe innovative work in schools is the only way we can make sure our kids will get the best education possible. It’s so exciting to see others get fired up about those same topics.
