Boss's Day

What I Learned In School Today: It feels weird being called “boss”.

Today is Boss’s Day where we recognize and thank our bosses for their support, leadership, and kindness. Several people sent me kind emails, wrote cards, or simply said thank you today, all of which felt great, but also a bit strange.

This is my second year as an administrator and therefore my second year as a “boss” and I still find it hard to believe that I fit into that category. The term “boss” has a negative connotation and suggests someone who is authoritarian, inflexible, and unyielding, none of which are character traits I wish to exemplify as a leader. I want to be a trustworthy leader who works with people and is a thoughtful decision maker. I want to be approachable and dependable. I want to empower my staff to be the best educators they can be. I strive to be a leader, not a boss. That being said, thanks to everyone for the Happy Boss’s Day wishes!
