Trust Professionalism

What I Learned In School Today: Trust the professionalism of strong employees.

As with any school, we enter the year with plans, placements, and pairings. The summer is spent analyzing and often agonizing over these assignments until they are distributed. Ideally, every assignment is the best fit for everyone, and the year goes smoothly. Realistically, changes always need to be made.

When assignment changes are made for the building staff, the reaction can go in three directions:

  1. Positive: the employee is excited for the change and even prefers the new position. A need is filled and everyone is happy.

  2. Indifferent: either the employee is fine with any assignment (yay!) or is apathetic to the work in general (boo!). The indifferent reaction is unique in its own right and something I hope I learn to assess accurately and address this year.

  3. Negative: the employee is disappointed with the change and wants to remain where he or she was previously.

I am lucky to work with true professionals. When I changed several assignments today, some were happy and some were not (I didn't see any indifference today), but everyone understood that the school year brings about unexpected circumstances and we all must work together to succeed. Professionalism is so important and I got learn about it firsthand today.
