What I Learned In School Today: It feels good to finish a big job in one work session.
I am fortunate to work with a principal who is the ultimate team player. Collaboration and cooperation are prioritized in our school and that stretches up to our work as the two administrators in the building.
Today we worked on finalizing our building goals for the school year. With a faculty meeting scheduled for next week where we plan to share our building goals with the staff so that everyone understands our focuses for the year, the action steps we will implement to achieve those goals, and the methods for measuring our success. We’ve already gathered valuable information on each of our goal areas from staff members, but now it was time to put it all together.
We had planned to work on our goals earlier in the week, but the first several days of school go by so quickly that we were unable to do so. Today we know it had to get done, so when spread our materials in the conference room and got to work. Our attitude at the onset was clear: we don’t leave until it’s done. Naturally, people had to stop in to ask questions several times throughout our work, but we addressed the questions, regained or focus, and continued to work until we came up with a plan. The plan is strong and I am happy with the work we accomplished. While it is often difficult to do so, sometimes we just need to lock ourselves in a room with a single focus and not leave until it’s done.
