What I Learned In School Today: You never know when something is going to suddenly change.
At 5:00 PM this afternoon, we added another first grade section for the upcoming school year and the impact was huge. Students start in less than a week and have already been given teacher assignments and come to school for sneak-a-peek.
Adding the first grade section will without a doubt be great for our kids. The smaller class sizes will help teachers connect to kids and increase the targeted instruction and interventions that the students will receive.
It feels like there are approximately three billion pieces we need to get in order for this class to be ready for day one of the school year, which looms only a few days away. Priority number one will definitely be figuring out which students will be moved from one class into the new section. While straightforward on paper, there is a group of six-year-olds excited to start the school year who will get a phone call saying what they expect is about to change.
How can we best support the students and their parents for this new class? Clear communication and a strong start to the school year will be key.
